whats to come in the new year?

Sunday was a fabulous Electra Socket show down at prism. SPIDER-MAN!!!. We all enjoy the antics of our hometown diva, no matter how many times I see her sometimes crude but horribly ORIGINAL drag comedy style I just can not get enough of her, I know she cares as much about our community as I do. ELECTRA YOU ARE ONE OF A KIND and WE LOVE YOU!!!

Well the New Year is upon us Girls, and Jaky's show is coming up this Sunday. I have been thinking of the perfect way to wrap up a great year in our drag community. What better than to do a BEST OF 2007 wrap up show in honor of all the queens who have cum and gone? I will be dedicating numbers and taking requests meet me at PRISM LOUNGE at 10:30 Sunday January 6 for the first show of 2008!!!!

6) KNOW YOUR LIGHTING

A fine line must be made between drag performance and camp. It is fun to be campy when time calls for this but a true understanding of the stage and how movement appears is critical. Par Can (parabolic reflector lamp in a canister), or nightclub stage lighting, is some of the harshest lights you will encounter in performance, these lights are the reason behind numerous movement and make-up do's and don’ts we will cover in posts. It is your job, take time to understand the lighting conditions of your venue and spend some time watching how it reacts to movement and find a balance. Determine where the Par Cans are in relation to your performance most of the time you will not get complete coverage. Your performance is directly effected by how these lights read. Some larger movements of the arms or head or specific poses, tilting the head back, can be greatly amplified, appearing garish if not done in the correct lighting. Smaller demure motions, specific to “Celebrity Impersonation” may be lost completely.

In closing many drag queens lose sight of the larger picture when it comes to performance, personality. The six basic rules we covered here may just save your career. Starting out with a basic understanding of how you are perceived is pivotal in developing stage presence but we can never forget who we are. Stage presence is the art of winning over a crowd with out a word. We should be able to use the resources provided to develop a sense of perception while remaining who we are as individuals.

Jakyllyn Hyde's the Christmas Spirit

Well kids, last night was fabulous.
For those who were not in attendance last night was "Jakyllyn Hyde's the Christmas Spirit" show (otherwise known as the annual Ho! Ho! Whoe! Show). Every year the local queens get together and put on a huge production show fundraiser to benefit the Victoria Pride Society. At the beginning of the month the show was going as planned and last minute four of the scheduled seven performers pulled out unexpectedly. AHHHHH!!!!.. Not to worry all we are talking the Jakyllyn Hyde here, I of course pulled up my big girl panties and stepped it into high gear to learned four new Christmas numbers just for the event.. The turn out was AMAZING and we raised quite a bit of money. We sold Cherry and Strawberry candy canes for one dollar each and even had large donations from the bar staff...

Unfortunately my dear photographer and friend Lisa was not with us as she had previous Christmas plans, (we missed you hun) I will attempt to get pictures from the show and post in the future but for now here is the poster.
