The Boa Shows Turned 13
Jaky was in Vancouver over the Weekend and had the pleasure of attending the glamourous thirteen year anniversary of the (Feather) Boa Shows at the Odyssey Sunday December 9th... Congratulations go out to the hostesses Joan-E and Justine Tyme, and the best thing to happen to a drag show since the tape-deck DJ Jules. with special guest pure diva action all the way Ms. CoCo.
The history of these shows is as vast as the performers themselves..
It all began over twenty years earlier when a division of owners brought about a new club called the Odyssey on Howe Street in Vancouver B.C. from the get go the owners wanted a strong show with steady hosts that could keep the crowd coming back (who doesn't... LOL) Past hosts have included such immense talents as Empress XV & XX Myria Le Noir, and Empress XIX Willie Taylor, to Empress III Sandy St. Peters, but no one has had as much of a lasting impact as the current talents of Joan-E and Justine Tyme. It wasn't always easy said Joan-E as she bridged to a montage dedicated to the the past thirteen years she told of past attempts to keep hosts and the casting of future Empress' XXVIII Joan-E and XXX Diana Rose in 1994 followed by the coaxing of Calgary Glamour queen Justine Tyme in 1995. The drag community lost a mentor and friend in 2001 with Diana Rose but she would never be forgotten. The Feather Boa show did not replace their third host instead welcoming a third guest weekly, these guests have always ranged from the glamorously imperial to the hip and trashy. Regular talents including Carlotta Gurl, Willie Taylor and Vivian Von Brokenhymen, they have tested the hands of time and with hope together Joan-E and Justine will continue to entertain our Sunday nights for at least one more year. Congrats Girls and Good Luck into the New Year.
